Sulfur Condenser Tube Cleaning Using Pneumatic Mechanical System at HCML FPSO

BUMIARMADHA | HCML Sampang, Madura

2023

Project Overview

PT Elbema Integra Indonesia performed mechanical cleaning of the sulfur condenser onboard the HCML (Husky-CNOOC Madura Limited) FPSO on Oct 2023, using the TC Wilson drill tube tool from the United States, which is the first and only equipment of its kind in Indonesia.

The cleaning process targeted hardened sulfur deposits inside the condenser tubes, utilizing the drill tube technology to effectively remove scale and buildup without damaging the pipe structure.

The TC Wilson Drill Tube operates by inserting a small rotating tool into the condenser tubes. This tool mechanically spins and scrapes away hardened sulfur deposits and scale from the inner pipe walls without damaging the pipe material. This process enables highly effective cleaning in hard-to-reach areas, improving flow efficiency and overall performance of the sulfur condensation system.

This project was closely monitored by technical experts from TC Wilson, who actively participated in technical discussions on tool operation and SOP adjustments to ensure the cleaning process was safe, efficient, and compliant with manufacturer standards. This collaborative approach enhanced both the quality of the work and the technical competence of PT Elbema’s team in operating advanced equipment.

The operation was conducted under strict offshore health, safety, and environment (HSE) protocols and successfully completed within the planned timeframe, contributing to the overall reliability of the HCML FPSO operations.
