Rod mill Overhaul at Alumina Processing Plant
PT INDONESIA CHEMICAL ALUMINA | Tayan, Kalimantan Barat
2023
Project Overview
In June and August 2023, PT Elbema Integra Indonesia successfully completed the shell lining replacement of two Rod Mill units at the production facility of PT Indonesia Chemical Alumina (ICA), located in Tayan, Sanggau Regency, West Kalimantan. This project was part of ICA’s annual plant shutdown program and aimed to maintain the grinding system’s efficiency and prolong the service life of critical equipment.
Each Rod Mill contained nearly 200 shell liners, which were entirely removed and replaced. The replacement work for each unit was completed within a strict 10 working day schedule, requiring tight coordination, precise execution, and effective on-site logistics. The scope of work included : Removal of worn liners using specialized lifting tools, thorough cleaning of the inner shell surface from scale and residues, mechanical inspection of the Rod Mill shell and liner bolts, installation of new liners according to OEM layout and specifications, and application of torque-controlled tightening to ensure mechanical integrity.
The project was executed by PT Elbema’s experienced technical team, adhering strictly to occupational safety and health (HSE) standards, while maintaining daily reporting and coordination with PT ICA’s engineering team. This efficient collaboration ensured the project was completed safely, on time, and without incident.
The successful replacement of the Rod Mill shell liners demonstrates PT Elbema Integra Indonesia’s strong capabilities in executing high-precision mechanical work in mineral processing environments, while supporting the continuous and reliable operation of Indonesia’s leading alumina refinery.
